The fruit extract of T. chebula has been demonstrated to possess diversified pharmacological and medicinal activities, such as anticancer, immunomodulator, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antidiabetic, antimicrobial, hepato and renal protective, gastrointestinal motility and wound healing. These assets of the plants might be the cause of chemical compounds such as chebulin, terchebin, chebulinic acid, ellagic acid, gallic acid,2,4-chebulyl-D-glucopyranose, terflavin A, arjungenin, ethyl gallate, punicalagin, tannic acid andluteolin. The plant is also one of the main components of an herbal formulation, ITRIPHAL that is very famous traditional Unani medicine for chronic problems like, brain disorders, digestive problem and diabetes. Due to numerous medicinal properties, T. chebula is generally called as ‘King of Medicine’ in Tibet and can be termed as a ‘wonder herb’. So considering its importance in a broader perspective, this study was conducted on the upgradation and summarization of the information on the phyto chemistry, pharmacology, macro, microscopic study and investigation more broadly to affirm these therapeutic effects and to approve traditional uses.
