ABSTRACT:
Natural polymers are preferred over synthetic polymers as they are nontoxic, facilely available at low cost, utilized in low concentration, and are naturally extracted to provide nutritional supplement. Fast dissolving tablets have received ever-increasing demand during the last decade. Aim of present study was to develop fast dissolving tablet of Carvedilol using seed polymer extracted from Benincasa hispida. Prepared tablets were evaluated for pre and post compression parameters. Results of compatibility study using FTIR and DSC showed that Carvedilol is compatible with extracted seed polymer. Pre-compression studies revealed good micromeritic properties of powder blend for direct compression. In-vitro dissolution study showed that, tablet containing seed polymer released 90.67% of drug within 60 min. Study concluded that, natural superdisintegrant extracted from Benincasa hispida can be efficaciously utilized in tablet formulations which exhibit faster drug dissolution and hence may increase bioavailability, thereby, availing in efficacious therapy with improved patient compliance.
