Natural Hand Sanitizer: Effective Product

Many alcohol containing sanitizer brands are available in market. And in some research, it was found that alcohol is carcinogenic to human body. And we know that cancer was very serious diseases. So for avoiding cancer we try to made natural hand sanitizer. Natural component-based sanitizers mean contain natural occurring substance. Some natural occurring substances have many medicinal properties as well as rarer side effect.

The different kinds of synthetic hand sanitizers brands are available in market. All these contains various chemicals such as ethylalcohol, isopropylalcohol or combination of both in concentrations ranging from 60- 95 percentage.


Various Phases of sanitizers are:

1.     Antimicrobial agent

2.     Emollients and moisturizers

3.     Emulsifier[4]


1) Antimicrobial Agent:

An Antimicrobial agent is an agent that kills microorganisms or stops their growth.[1]


2) Emollient:

Emollients are moisturizing treatments applied directly to the skin to soothe and hydrate it. They cover the skin with a protective film to trap in moisture.[2]


3) Emulsifier:

Emulsifier are additive that help two liquids mix. For example, water and oil separate in a glass, but adding an emulsifier will help the liquid mix together.[3]

In our recent research study we have prepare a hand sanitizer. Today we know that world deal with a big diseases i.e Novel COVID-19.


So for avoiding the growth of bacteria on our hand it is necessary clean our hand with sanitizer. But it is also important is it sanitizer is good or bad for our health?.


Generally in marketed sanitizers alcohols are present which cause other life- threating diseases.


So we study some plants and it is found that not only alcohol has antimicrobial activity but some plants are also those having antimicrobial activity.


Disadvantages of Ethylalcohol-

Inflammable and explosive (electrocautery not done)

Slow and unpleasant induction

Slow recovery (vomiting and nausea)

Irritant–more chances of laryngospam, bronchospasm, increase salivation-atropine required

Cardiac arrest

Convulsion in children

Cross tolerance.


Disadvantages of Isopropylalcohol

·       Dizziness

·       Low blood pressure

·       Stomach pain

·       Nausea

·       Rapid heart rate, or tachycardia

·       Low body temperature

·       Slurred speech

·       Slow breathing

·       Vomiting

·       Unresponsive reflexes

·       Throat pain or burning

·       Seizure

·       Coma[5]


Disadvantages of Benzalkonium chloride:

Effects of short-term exposure, Benzethonium chloride is corrosive to the eyes and is irritating to the skin. Long-term effects from repeated exposure may cause dermatitis.[6]


Our formulation:

1.     We use neem oil as a Antimicrobial agent.

2.     Castor oil as a emollient[7]

3.     Allovera gel act as moisturizers[7]

4.     Coconut oil as a Emulsifier[8]


Repellency Testing:

The test insects used during investigation of the action and the effectiveness of product were the common sugar ants, The insects [totaling 65] were cautiously captured in a netted box to prevent them from escaping and straved for about 24hr. under laboratory condition. Two untreated sugar cubes were carefully into the box containing the captured insects.All the insects were allow allowed to feed on the sugar for about 48 hr. .At this point , the remaining sugar cubes was removed from the box, and the insects were starved for another 48hr.After this starvation period a sugar cube freshly treated with two dreps of product was placed in the box and number of insects hovering round it at 15 minutes intervals was recordedupto about 3hr.



Sanitizer repellency sanitizer was done by apply on hands. And also tested on common sugar ant test. So, it found to be safe and effective.



It concluded that above formulation has no irritation, Safe and able to kill microorganisms effectively.
